Yuna Toki
violin
Born in Chiba Prefecture, Yuna Toki won 1st Prize and the Prize for the Best Performance of the Commissioned Work at the 6th Novosibirsk International Violin Competition, 1st Prize at the 20th New York SMF Concerto Competition, and 1st Prize at the 12th International Competition for Young Violinists in Honour of Karol Lipiński and Henryk Wieniawski. She is also a recipient of the Tokyo Governor's Award. She won 3rd Prize at the 82nd Music Competition of Japan, followed by 2nd Prize at the 83rd edition.
She has appeared as a soloist with orchestras including the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra and the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra, and has been featured on NHK-FM's "Recital Nova." From 2013 to 2015, she performed on the 1716 "Hammer" Stradivarius, generously loaned by the ITOH Foundation.
She has studied with Anna Starnovskaya, Akuri Suzuki and Akiko Tatsumi, and received further instruction from Zakhar Bron at an academy in Switzerland. She studied chamber music with Nobuko Yamazaki, Hamao Fujiwara and Heiichiro Ohyama, among others.
She graduated at the top of her class from the Toho Gakuen School of Music and completed her master's degree at the Toho Gakuen Graduate School of Music. She then studied with Mark Gothoni at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK Berlin), graduating with the highest distinction. She furthered her training as a member of the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra (RSB) Academy and has appeared as a guest musician with ensembles including the Berliner Barock Solisten and the Berlin Philharmonic.
She has been a scholarship recipient of the Yamaha Music Foundation and the Rohm Music Foundation, and is a Music Dialogue artist.
Formerly Assistant Concertmaster of the Second Violins of the Staatskapelle Dresden, she has been a Lecturer at the Toho Gakuen School of Music since April 2026.
