Yuki Ito
Yuki Ito, multi-award winning cellist described as “world-class talent” by major international critiques, won 1st prize at both the International Johannes Brahms Competition in Austria and the Windsor Festival International String Competition in the UK aged 21, and made his début with the Philharmonia Orchestra in 2011. He has since performed with many renowned orchestras and artists as Vladimir Ashkenazy, David Geringas, Seiji Ozawa, and Julian Lloyd Webber.
Including his NHK Japan’s worldwide TV broadcast recital in 2016 to commemorate the 120th birth of legendary author Kenji Miyazawa, whose centennial anniversary soloist was Yo-Yo Ma, his global recital invitations include his Wigmore Hall debut recital in June 2018, recitals at Windsor Castle, Royal Festival Hall and Royal Albert Hall, as well as a private recital personally invited by HRH The Prince Edward. In 2015 he visited Republic of Angola twice to guide an orchestra, and led them to success in their Japan Tour the following year. He has given numerous premieres of works dedicated to him.
He is especially noted for his performance and interpretation of Rachmaninov's works, which have frequently been broadcast on BBC and NHK, with his début album “Rachmaninov Complete Cello Works” receiving critical acclaim internationally, chosen as Recommended Disc by The Strad UK describing “Ito triumphs in Rachmaninov…Sensational recital”. His second album “The Romantic” for Sony Music label released in 2017 was chosen as Recommended Disc by Record Geijutsu Japan.
His new own weekly radio show starts in 2018 on Internet Radio OTTAVA, available worldwide.
He has annually adjudicated at FLAME Music Competition in Paris since 2014. Also active as conductor, he has been Artistic Director of Knightsbridge Philharmonic since 2013.
He studied with Alexander Boyarsky and David Geringas, and graduated from the Royal College of Music in 2015. CHANEL Pygmalion Days 2014 Artist.
