Yoshio Hamano
Born in Tokyo, Japanese-Russian pianist Yoshio Hamano is currently enrolled on the Artist Diploma programme at the Royal College of Music, studying with Prof Vanessa Latarche and Prof Dmitri Alexeev, Professor of Advanced Piano, as a Joseph Clover Scholar supported by a Pidem Award and Meiji-Yasuda Cultural Foundation. Yoshio completed his Master of Performance in 2014 at the RCM and Bachelor of Arts in 2012 at Tokyo University of the Arts, where he studied with Dr Atsuko Okada. Yoshio had the honour of being a pupil of Elena Ashkenazi for over ten years, and also works with pianists Nikita Fitenko and Vadim Sakharov. Yoshio has been a prize winner of major international piano competitions, such as the Nordic Piano Competition in Malmö, International Russian Music Piano Competition, Minoru Nojima Yokosuka Piano Competition, Alemdar Karamanov Youth Pianists International Competition, and Rome-2003 International Piano Competition, and most recently - 2013 Almaty International Piano Competition. In June 2013, Yoshio became a semi-finalist of the 5th Sendai International Music Competition and was awarded the audience prize. Yoshio has performed extensively as soloist with orchestras and chamber ensembles, including the Japan Philharmonic at Suntory Hall (Tokyo), Tokyo Symphony, Central Aichi Symphony, Geidai Philharmonia, Lund City Orchestra, City of Bishkek Grand Symphony Orchestra, Russian National Tchaikovsky String Quartet, and Vienna Rasumofsky Quartet. To date, Yoshio had the privilege of working with such distinguished conductors as Alexander Lazarev, Kazuki Yamada, Naoto Otomo, and Masahiko Enkoji. He has presented recitals across Japan and the United States, United Kingdom, Russia, and the CIS. Yoshio has also performed at music festivals, including Grachtenfestival (Amsterdam), Red Square Festival and Spring in Russia (Moscow), and Washington International Piano Festival. In 2012, Yoshio was named Chanel Pygmalion Days Artist and participated in the prestigious Pygmalion Days Concert Series, organised by Chanel K. K. at Nexus Hall, Tokyo. In addition to performing, Yoshio works as the artistic director of Renaissance Projects Worldwide Concert Series organised in partnership with pianist Toshihiro Kaneshige, as well as an independent concert producer: among his projects are regular outreach tours to north-eastern region of Japan, worst affected by the March 2011 Higashi-Nihon Earthquake and Tsunami.
