Thomas Carroll

Born in Swansea, England, cellist Thomas Carroll won the auditions for Young Concert Artists Trust in London and Young Concert Artists, Inc. in New York. He made acclaimed debut recitals in England and in the U.S., including New York, Boston, and Washington DC. As a concerto soloist Mr. Carroll has appeared with major orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, London Mozart Players, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra (conducted by Heinrich Schiff), English Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra of St. Luke’s (New York), Prague Philharmonic, Sofia Philharmonic, and Bayerischer Rundfunk Orchestra.
Also in demand as a chamber musician, Mr. Carroll has worked with the Belcea Quartet, the Chilingirian Quartet, and the Endellion Quartet, and with Gidon Kremer and at the Edinburgh Festival.
Recent engagements include concerts at London’s Wigmore Hall, the Louvre in Paris, Konzerthaus in Vienna, the Dubrovnik Festival, Mecklenburg Festival and The International Chamber Music Festival in Utrecht. Mr. Carroll has performed at the Delft Festival in Holland and as soloist with the BBC Concert Orchestra at the Queen Elizabeth Hall (broadcast by BBC Radio 3), Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the London Philharmonic. He made his debut with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in a series of performances of Shostakovich’s Concerto No.2. Last season he returned as soloist with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, performed the Dvorák concerto with the Staatsorchester Braumschweiger, Vivaldi Double Concerto with Heinrich Schiff and the Vienna Chamber Orchestra. Mr. Carroll and eminent pianist Llyr Williams’ CD of Beethoven, Schubert and Brahms sonatas was released on the Orchid Label. Mr. Carroll is Professor at the Royal College of Music in London and at the Yehudi Menuhin School.
