Sonoka Daigo
Sonoka Daigo was born in Tokyo. After attending the Tokyo College of Music High School, she went on to graduate top of her class in the vocal performance course at the TCM. Continuing her studies, she also earned a Master’s degree (Opera) at the TCM’s graduate school. On completion of this degree she was awarded a scholarship sponsored by NTT Docomo. She performed at Yomiuri Shimbun’s Annual Concert by Rookie Musicians. On completing masterclass at the Nikikai Opera Foundation she received an award for excellence. She also won a prize at the 17th Japan Vocal Music Competition and an award for excellence at the 24th Soleil Auditions.
In operas, she has performed the roles of Melanto in the “The Return of Ulysses to his Homeland,” as Ramiro in “The Pretend Garden-Girl,” as Susanna and Cherubino in “The Marriage of Figaro,” as Donna Anna in “Don Giovanni,” as Mimì in “La Bohème,” as Diana in “Orpheus in the Underworld,” and as Hansel in “Hansel and Gretel.”
In February 2013 she participated in the Tokyo Nikikai Opera Theater’s production of “The Bat,” covering the role of Rosalinde. She has also performed in wide range of concerts, including Verdi’s “Requiem” and Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 9 in D minor” as a soloist, as well as recitals of Japanese classical songs in Taiwan.
In 2014 she performed the lead role of Sylva Varescu in the Tokyo Nikikai Opera Theater’s production of “The Gypsy Princess”. In November 2015, she will perform the role of Franziska in the “Wiener Blut”at Nissay Theatre. She also works as a part-time lecturer at the Tokyo College of Music High School and the Junten High School. She is a member of the Nikikai Opera Foundation.
