Sayaka Chiba
Sayaka Chiba graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts and received the Ataka Award. She has won various prizes and awards including 1st place in the elementary school division of the nationwide 49th All-Japan Student Music Competition, the Uzuka prize and the Togi prize. She also placed 3rd in the 72nd Music Competition of Japan, and 5th in the 3rd Sendai International Music Competition. On numerous occasions she has played with prominent musicians both in Japan and abroad including Mischa Maisky, Yuri Bashmet and Valery Oistrakh. She has also played in various music festivals such as La Folle Journée (Nantes, France), La Folle Journée au Japon, Saito Kinen Festival Matsumoto and Beppu Argerich Music Festival. As a soloist, she has played with orchestras both in Japan and overseas including the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition to making guest appearances as concertmaster of orchestras all over Japan, she participates in a wide range of performance activities playing solo as well as chamber music. To date, she has studied under Takashi Shimizu and Gérard Poulet. She also studied chamber music under Kiyoshi Okayama and Nobuko Yamazaki. She is currently the assistant concertmaster of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra. Her first album “Touche le coeur” released from Octavia Records in 2022 was selected as a special selection by Record Geijutsu (Ongaku no Tomo Sha) and AudioAccessory (Ongen Publishing).
