Momoko Aritomi

Momoko ARITOMI was born in Chiba in 1996 and received her first violin and piano lessons at the age of four. After attending from Tokyo University of Arts, she came to Vienna to study viola at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where she was taught first by Prof. Wolfgang Klos as well as Prof. Ulrich Schönauer and then by Prof. Thomas Selditz. She graduated with honors in July 2022.She is currently the first Japanese to play at the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra as Academy.
Her achievements include the 1st place at the 2013 Japan Player's Competition, 2nd place at the 2019 Anton Rubinstein International Competition, 1st place at the Vienna Dichler Competition, 3rd place (concerto with the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra) at the 16th Tokyo Music Competition, finalist (concerto with the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra) at the Vienna Classical Strings International Competition, 2nd place (special prize of the Romanian Embassy), at the Romanian International Music Competition, and 2nd place at the Johannes Brahms International Competition. She participated in the Angelika Prokopp Summer Academy of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra 2019, received a scholarship from the Anny Felbermayer Fund for the academic year 2019/2020, the Josef & Harrietta Krips Scholarship from Switzerland 2020 and the HFP Young Artist Award (Vienna) 2022.
She is currently the first Japanese to play at the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra as Academy.
