Modan Oyama
Piano

Modan Oyama was born in Osaka in 2005 and began studying piano at the age of four. In 2025 he won First Prize at the Ke'alohi International Piano Competition (Hawaii) and Second Prize at the 5th Shigeru Kawai International Piano Competition. He was also a Grade Superior Finalist at the 48th PTNA Piano Competition, and earned the Bronze Prize in Grade G at the 45th PTNA Piano Competition. At the Salzburg=Mozart International Chamber Music Competition in Tokyo (2024) he achieved Second Place (Highest Award) in the Piano Solo “Live Performance Format” division. In 2023 he was a semi-finalist at the 3rd Cliburn International Junior Piano Competition (USA).
At the 75th Student Music Concours of Japan (High School Division) he achieved First Place in the Osaka regional final and the national final. He also received the Yokohama Citizen’s Award (Audience Prize), the Music Encouragement Award, the Nomura Award, the Aiko Iguchi Award and the NHK President’s Award. At the 73rd Student Music Concours of Japan (Junior High School Division) he placed Second in the Osaka regional final and Third nationally. Additionally, at the 6th Ishikawa International Piano Competition he placed Third in Jr. III Category, and Fifth in Adult Division, while also receiving the Jury’s Special Award from Akiko Ebi. He was the First Prize winner at the Young Verona Piano Competition (Italy, 2021) and received First Prize (Category B) at the Imola International Piano Awards (Italy, 2019), among numerous other awards.
He has appeared as a soloist with the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra, the Osaka Symphony Orchestra, the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, the IKKYU Philharmonic and the Kurakon Memorial Orchestra. In 2023 he attended the Hamamatsu International Piano Academy. He also provided piano performance dubbing for the childhood scenes of the main character in the NHK TV anime Forest of Piano, and has performed at the Stand Up! Classic Festival ’18 and the commemorative concert celebrating the 1,250th anniversary of Kasuga Taisha Shrine, featuring the anime Forest of Piano.
He is a scholarship recipient of the 11th Yasuko Fukuda Scholarship Foundation, the 3rd Yamaoka Träumerei Music Foundation, and a 2025 scholarship student of the Aoyama Music Foundation. He has studied under Ayami Serizawa and Keiji Serizawa, and is currently enrolled in the Special Piano Performer Course at Osaka College of Music.
