Julia Bruskin

Since her concerto debut with the Boston Symphony Orchestra at the age of 17, cellist Julia Bruskin has established a career as soloist and as cellist of the renowned Claremont Trio, which won the Young Concert Artists Auditions. In January 2012, the Claremont Trio performed the Gala Opening Concert of Calderwood Concert Hall of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. The Trio was honored as recipients of the first Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson International Trio Prize. The Claremont Trio's discography includes the trios of Mendelssohn, Shostakovich and a CD of trios by great American composers, including YCA Composer, Mason Bates. They recorded the Beethoven Triple Concerto this spring with the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra. Ms. Bruskin has performed Samuel Barber’s Cello Concerto with conductor Jahja Ling at New York's Avery Fisher Hall and has appeared as soloist with the Utah Symphony, Virginia Symphony, Pacific Symphony, Nashville Symphony and the Dayton Philharmonic. She collaborates with pianist Aaron Wunsch, and her recitals this year include a tour in China to Shanghai, Nanjing, and Guangzhou. A frequent guest at U.S. summer music festivals, she has performed at La Jolla Summerfest, Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center in New York, and the Caramoor, Bard, and Ravinia Festivals. Her performances in the 2012 Young Concert Artists Festival are her first in Japan. Ms. Bruskin has given master classes at the Eastman School of Music, the Peabody Conservatory, and Duke University and has served as visiting professor at the Shanghai Normal University. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Ms. Bruskin began cello lessons at the age of four. She earned a Master's degree from the Juilliard School, a Bachelor's degree from Columbia University, and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa society.
